The criminal justice process can benefit greatly from the use of computer technology and the use of the same computer or network for multiple tasks.
Abstract
The eight processes in criminal justice have been essentially the same for decades. They include the crime, the call for help, the collection and analysis of evidence, the forensic analysis of the evidence, suspect identification, adjudication, incarceration, and parole. Technology to assist each process has been installed in many locations around the world. The applications are easy to learn, because they are graphically oriented. A simple point and click with a mouse operates most applications. The applications can be integrated in a single computer in small police agencies so that the jurisdiction can perform several functions in a multi-tasking manner. In large police agencies, several computers can be networked together to share common data through an integrated relational database.
