Legal sanctions and laws to protect stalking victims have been criticized as lacking, and mental health professionals have been accused of allowing stalking survivors to slip through the cracks. In addition, professional literature and news articles are frequently limited to reviews of celebrities being stalked, antistalking laws, pending legislation, and case studies. Since more information is needed on crisis intervention methods designed to aid stalking victims, the case example describes the role of the clinician in applying cognitive time-limited crisis intervention with stalking victims. The case example and treatment experience provide a therapeutic framework to help mental health professionals adequately intervene with stalking survivors and avoid the potential for premeditated violence that can result from the stalking encounter. 22 references
