Detailed statistics on prison population movements in California during 1995 indicate that 45,459 new felony and 2,369 civil narcotic addict (CNA) admissions were received from the courts and that 1,605 county diagnostic cases were received.
Abstract
During 1995, 52,430 felony parole violators returned to custody, 17,454 felony parole violators returned with a new term from the courts, and 2,742 CNA outpatients returned to custody to finish their terms or with a new civil commitment. Also during 1995, 103,094 felony inmates were released to parole from California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions. Of these, 55,778 were first releases to parole and 47,316 were rereleases to parole. A total of 1,686 county diagnostic cases were discharged from CDC institutions and temporary release status, 236 inmates died in a CDC institution or while on temporary release status, and 4,605 CNA's were released to outpatient status from a CDC institution or while on temporary release status.
