This report details the substance abuse, academic, vocational and education programs to be operated at a special California Department of Corrections secure facility.
Abstract
Legislation of 1993 authorized the California Department of Corrections to construct and establish a secure substance abuse treatment facility for inmates with a history of substance abuse and who meet specified criteria. This report details the substance abuse, academic, vocational and education programs to be operated at the institution. Priority for housing at the facility will be given to inmates who: have a history of substance abuse; desire to participate in substance abuse treatment; are incarcerated for crimes in which substance abuse was a contributing factor; and have sufficient incarceration time remaining to complete a full substance abuse treatment program. The facility is scheduled for activation in the fall of 1997 and will feature substance abuse treatment services provided through community-based treatment organizations. Treatment shall include individual and group substance abuse counseling and workshops; victim awareness, academic and vocational education; physical fitness; drug testing; and planning for successful and sober reentry upon parole.
