The report is arranged in three volumes. The first volume contains summary information on statewide court caseloads, expenditures, and revenues and also presents annual caseload reports of the Indiana Supreme Court, the Indiana Court of Appeals, and the Indiana Tax Court. The second volume provides detailed data on court case filings, court dispositions, and methods of disposition. The third volume contains information on court expenditures and revenues. The report is not intended to be an exact accounting of funds or a complete detailing of every judicial decision. Rather, it aims to present an overview of the workload and functioning of Indiana's judiciary. As such, the report can be used by trial judges to evaluate their performance and to monitor caseloads. Court caseload data indicate the total number of cases filed in Indiana courts increased from 1,455,660 in 1995 to 1,501,949 in 1996, an increase of 3.18 percent. Court dispositions rose by about 5 percent, and the most common method of disposition was by guilty plea. Total court expenditures increased by 13 percent between 1995 and 1996. Tables and figures
