Abstract
A questionnaire was sent to major institutions and individuals known to be doing social science research related to the criminal justice system. The questionnaire solicited information on research completed during the past 10 years and on work in progress. A total of 258 projects and just over 550 planned or existing reports are included in this first publication. The information is presented without annotation in the words of the contributors. The research projects are presented under the following categories: children and youth, cohort studies, community corrections, courts and sentencing, crime prevention, family violence, offenders and offending, police and policing, prisons and inmates, victims, and "other research." The information for each entry contains the name of the researcher, funding sources, research method, and project status (completed or in progress), followed by a brief description of the study and its findings, along with key words and notes. Appended bibliographic references, a projects list, an alphabetical list of books and report titles, and the survey questionnaire
