Abstract
Attorney General Reno presented to the National Forum on Youth Violence the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent, and Chronic Juvenile Offenders. Features of the strategy include: (1) community options on solutions and program implementation; (2) concern with strengthening families or surrogate families; (3) a focus on domestic violence; (4) developing centers where parents can learn about parenting skills, drug rehabilitation and other topics to help keep families together; (5) improving education, including evening classes and other innovations to reach more children; (6) developing businesses and training programs in the inner cities; (7) evaluating community policing as a way to bring communities together; (8) devising ways to get guns out of the hands of children; and (9) creating multidisciplinary programs and giving them the resources they need for early intervention and prevention efforts.
