Fiscal year 1998 program plans of the Office of Justice Programs (OJP) emphasize the need for a broad-based attack on crime that involves not only criminal justice agencies but also non-criminal justice agencies, the private sector, and the community.
Abstract
As the OJP moves ahead with initiatives outlined in the program plans, its goal is to increase the impact of federal dollars by providing State and local jurisdictions with funds and programs that are based on sound research and rigorous evaluation. Programs supported by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the National Institute of Justice, and the Office for Victims of Crime in fiscal year 1998 are described. These programs focus on law enforcement, crime prevention, corrections, courts, prosecution, probation, indigent defense, pretrial services, technology, evaluation, training and technical assistance, crime and criminal offenders, juvenile violent crime and drug use, criminal justice research, crime victims, corrections, drug courts, violence against women, and Operation Weed and Seed. 3 exhibits
