This is a comprehensive overview of the field of juvenile justice.
Abstract
The volume focuses on juvenile justice policies, practices, and research. The overall theme of the work is innovation, exploring the full range of counseling and multisystemic treatment with longitudinal studies of the effectiveness of these techniques, how they might be improved, and predictions for the future. The book's basic thesis is that a systems analysis of juvenile justice is the most realistic approach to addressing the rising tide of delinquency, especially violent crime. The 22 articles in this volume discuss, among other topics: (1) current trends and issues for the future of juvenile justice policy; (2) juvenile violence and justice system responses; (3) school violence; (4) treating juveniles; (5) community strategies; (6) the Juvenile Court and probation services; (7) juvenile diversion programs; (8) police work, corrections, and juveniles; (9) the US Supreme Court and the juvenile death penalty; (10) a theory of drug use and delinquency; (11) juvenile and family treatment; prospects for a restorative juvenile justice; (12) social work advocacy in juvenile justice; (13) the future of corrections in juvenile justice; and (14) juvenile aftercare.
