This is the 1995-96 annual report of the Minnesota Office of Drug Policy and Violence Prevention (ODPVP), which is responsible for establishing drug abuse and violence prevention policy for the State; coordinating violence and drug-abuse prevention activities; and administering approximately $11 million in Federal and State grants to State, local, and nonprofit agencies.
Abstract
The report highlights six community-based programs funded by the ODPVP. One of the programs has developed community "asset teams" to create programs that will facilitate positive youth development through such efforts as after-school activities, inter-generational resources, positive parenting, and youth service. Another program involves the establishment of block clubs, through which police and community residents cooperate to build healthier neighborhoods. Other programs are a drug task force that targets mid- to upper-level drug dealers, conspiracies, and money-laundering cases; a community center that fosters improvements in community cooperation for a better life for residents; an after-school program for children with fetal alcohol syndrome; and a metro drug task force. Other sections of the report focus on the extent of chemical abuse and violence in the State, a violence prevention update, the grant fund program, prevention and intervention initiatives, and program evaluation. Appended staff list, community program funding for 1995-96 and 1994-95, and a sample violence prevention fact sheet
