This final contract report for the 3-year Missing Children's Program operated by the Our Town Family Center in Tucson, Ariz., documents how the project has used funds to provide services to missing and exploited children and their families.
Abstract
The program provided services to 40 schools, an increase of 70 percent over the 3-year period. Children and adults received information on missing children's issues and child sexual abuse. The issue of missing children was brought to the public's awareness through local crime fairs and resource fairs. Throughout the grant period, Center representatives attended several conferences on missing children's issues; in addition to the training provided, the conferences facilitated networking with other agencies working on missing-children issues across the Nation. The program funded a full-time staff position to provide home-based support services and ongoing support groups for family members involved in missing-children and child-exploitation cases. Parents were also assisted in locating their children through the production of flyers, in-home support visits, and advocacy with police officials. Other program achievements were a family support group, a divorce mediation program, and training in professional development in managing missing-children cases. Appended materials used in the project
