These 17 papers examine victimization in terms of victim characteristics; the impacts of crime on victims; contemporary theories of victimization; and the effectiveness of victim-oriented policies and programs such as victim assistance, peacemaking, and victim impact statements.
Abstract
The articles were reprinted from other journals. Individual papers focus on victim resistance in assaults against females, police response to victims of domestic assault, and the effects of victim impact statements on sentencing decisions. Additional papers examine juvenile victimization and delinquency, policy issues, the Hate Crime Statistics Act of 1990, property victimization, the nature and impacts of victim assistance in the United States, and psychological victimization effects. Other papers discuss advice to crime victims, the long-term consequences of victimization by white-collar crime, victim-offender mediation, and restorative justice.
