The Nation is moving away from cocaine; use of cocaine is down from its peak in 1985 of 5.7 million users to 1.7 million in 1996, a decline of 70 percent. Use of marijuana is down from 23.8 million users in 1979 to 10.1 million in 1996, a decline of 58 percent. Use Appears to have stabilized in the household population.
