The first chapter considers the mental makeup of drug-using criminals and ways to change their behavior. The second chapter presents a perspective on drug abuse that focuses on the incidence of drug use, physical and psychological dependence, drugs used to achieve expanded mental states, the drug user personality, drug effects, the nature of addiction, opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, depressants, volatile substances, marijuana, hallucinogens, polydrug use, and alcohol. The third chapter examines lifestyles of drug-using criminals, with emphasis on the family, the neighborhood, school and work settings, drug use in the military, the acquisition and distribution of drugs, antisocial patterns, and incarcerated drug users. The next two chapters provide a conceptual understanding of drug addiction and effects and describe drugs as facilitators of crime, sexual performance, crime, depression, and suicide.
