The videotape points out both young people and their parents can be sued for intentional acts such as vandalism and date rape and for negligent acts such as driving under the influence and automobile accidents. The videotape also looks at the effects of teenage drinking on insurance coverage and credit and earnings later in life. Additional topics of interest include the responsibility of parents to supervise their children, unchaperoned parties, the link between alcohol and violence and sexual assault, how young people illegally obtain alcohol, binge drinking, differential gender effects of alcohol consumption, and dangers associated with beach parties where alcohol is consumed. In the context of teenage drinking, the mission of the Parent Party Patrol (PPP) is to decrease the number of unchaperoned parties and adult-sponsored drinking parties. The PPP provides free expert panel presentations and disseminates information to educate parents and community groups about social, legal, and civil ramifications of teenage drinking. In addition, the PPP empowers communities to develop strategies and implement corrective action alternatives.
