A section on the roles and responsibilities of school officials addresses the Board of Trustees' duties as well as principals' duties and liabilities. Other issues related to school officials' roles and responsibilities are the reporting of serious crimes, the confidentiality of records, school attendance officers, unauthorized persons on school property, campus security personnel, school district peace officers, the placement review committee, and liaison officers. A section on laws that pertain to disciplinary punishment in schools includes reviews of laws relevant to classroom discipline, student code of conduct, truancy, a ban on tobacco products, removing a student from class, suspension, alternative education programs, expulsion, and corporal punishment. Among the issues considered under laws that pertain to crimes in schools are crime reporting, parental liability, contraband, student groups and gangs, and hazing. Also included are guidelines for conducting searches in schools and statutory requirements for taking a student into custody. Juvenile Crime Intervention Division resources are listed.
