Written for corrections professionals, this directory of juvenile and adult correctional departments, institutions, agencies, and parole authorities is organized by agency and institution type.
Abstract
The directory includes information on more than 4,000 correctional facilities nationwide, as well as facts about the organization of each State department of corrections. The first section of the directory contains information summaries for systems, offenders, and personnel. Systems information summaries concern capital expenditures and projects, departments and institutions under court order/consent decree, major operating expenses, number of facilities and programs for adults and juveniles, operating and capital expenditure budgets, position of correctional departments in State government, and probation/parole/aftercare service providers. Offender information summaries focus on adult inmate populations by security and age, adult populations in institutions and in community corrections and other programs, death sentences, juveniles under supervision, prisoner movement in adult systems, and incarceration rates. Personnel information summaries cover correctional officers in adult systems, wardens and superintendents, and personnel in adult and juvenile corrections. The second section of the directory lists correctional facilities by State, those under the U.S. Department of Justice, military correctional facilities, and correctional facilities in U.S. territories and also lists Canadian correctional facilities. Detailed information on the organization and activities of the American Correctional Association is included. Tables provide useful statistics about correctional facility populations, expenditures, and specific program demographics.
