The Weed and Seed Program sponsored by the Office of Justice Programs and ways in which communities can respond to drugs, crime, and violence are the focus of this videotape.
Abstract
Panel participants discuss various national and local level organizations and activities related to Weed and Seed. Four elements of the overall Weed and Seed strategy are identified: (1) law enforcement; (2) community policing; (3) prevention, intervention, and treatment; and (4) neighborhood restoration. The videotape considers ways to assist communities in their drug, crime, and violence prevention efforts and also examines ways of drug dealing networks in communities. Particular attention is paid to juvenile offenders and juvenile crime prevention, community partnerships, police-community relations, school and community involvement in crime prevention, and the role of the Department of Defense in drug control. Details are provided on how to implement effective drug prevention programs and on how to organize community crime prevention programs.
