Developing a response program for fires, bomb threats, police emergencies, earthquakes, and other disasters is not enough. The security manager, with the help of local fire officials, police, and company representatives, must ensure that the corporation's life-safety procedures are clearly outlined in a manual that is distributed to key members of the building's emergency response team. The article describes how to start preparing a manual by securing the cooperation and participation of the corporate security executive, the facilities manager, the company's chief life-safety officer, personnel director, and attorney. In addition, the security manager should invite municipal fire and safety officials to help develop the life-safety program and the manual. The article also describes requirements concerning personnel, training, skill drills, and response procedures.
