This is a directory of bail support provision in England and Wales arranged by local authority and probation service area.
Abstract
The directory provides information about bail support schemes for juveniles and young adult defendants in England and Wales. It is intended to help agencies and organizations in the criminal justice system make contact with schemes that might be able to provide a service for defendants with whom they are working. In addition, it provides a source of reference for agencies that might be considering establishing a bail support scheme or further developing an existing scheme. The target audience for the directory is primarily social workers and probation officers; crown prosecutors, magistrates, justice clerks, defense solicitors and police officers may also find the information of value and interest. The directory describes the pretrial process (legislative background, definition of bail support, influences on pretrial services, and findings from a bail support survey), and provides a guide to entry details and regional listings.
