Because many young people suffer the detrimental effects of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, concerned parents and educators continue to search for ways to help young people recognize the dangers associated with substance abuse.
Abstract
A poster/study guide for junior and senior high school teachers has been developed to help teachers educate young people about substance abuse. All activities are printed as reproducible masters, and teachers are encouraged to display the wall poster and to duplicate activity masters. The poster/study guide is intended to encourage students to think seriously about some tough issues. Activities included in the poster/study guide focus on providing facts about alcohol and drugs and helping students develop strategies to use when faced with peer pressure. The poster advertises a series of special television programs that were aired in February 1999 to raise awareness about the substance abuse problem.
