The District of Montana has created multi-disciplinary community-based programs to manage juvenile and adult sex offenders. The programs include bimonthly individual therapy sessions or weekly family sessions with weekly group sessions. As therapy progresses, the therapist works with the offender to engage in a victim clarification-restitution meeting. A few juveniles have been dropped, but none due to repeat sex offenses. The District of South Dakota has placed most of the federally prosecuted juvenile sex offenders on probation. This allows the court to impose post-release supervision and access facilities, according to the needs of each offender. Juveniles who reach their 18th birthday while under Federal supervision may be eligible for placement in half-way houses for adults with specialized sex offender treatment programs. Notes
