This report describes the staffing and workload of New York State's district attorneys and special prosecutors.
Abstract
In the fall of 1995, the New York Bureau of Statistical Services sent a mail survey to the chief prosecutor in each of New York's 62 counties and to the three State special prosecutors (Organized Crime Task Force, Medicaid Fraud Control and Special Narcotics Prosecutor); all responded to the survey. Information was obtained on staffing, salaries, case assignment, and work load as of September 1, 1995. Additional data were used from the Division of Criminal Justice Services Indictment Statistical System and the Computerized Criminal History system. The report presents information at the State, region and county level. Five regional aggregates were determined based upon 1994 county populations and location. The report contains a descriptive summary of the differences in prosecution environments across the five regions. Tables, figures
