This is the Tennessee Department of Corrections Annual Report for Fiscal Year 1994-1995.
Abstract
In November 1994, the Federal courts completely returned management of the Department to the State, thus allowing the Department to more directly manage its future. The Department completed the Tennessee Prison for Women master plan; all beds and their current security designations were inventoried; the Department was totally reorganized and the regional concept abolished; and improvements were made in the statewide provision of pharmaceutical services via the DeBerry Special Needs Facility. Other highlights of the Department's activities included implementation of random drug testing for employees holding commercial driver's licenses; implementation of a recycling program for all institutions; review of inmate security threat groups; and purchase of an electronic monitoring system for community based offenders. The Department continues to review the Community Corrections grant programs to ensure that they are diverting offenders from more costly prison beds. Figures, tables, bibliography
