This report summarizes Uniform Crime Reporting program data for North Dakota for 1996.
Abstract
In 1996, 17,682 crime index offenses were reported by local law enforcement agencies, a decrease of 4.2 percent from the 18,457 offenses reported in 1995. The index crime rate per 100,000 population was 2,745.7, compared to 2,879.4 for 1995. A total of 594 violent index crimes were reported, an increase of 1.9 percent from the total of 583 reported in 1995. Violent crime accounted for 3 percent of total index crimes reported in 1996. Property crimes decreased by 4.4 percent from 17,874 reported in 1995 to 17,088 reported in 1996. The 13,989 larceny/theft offenses accounted for 78.6 percent of total index crimes. More than $11 million worth of property was reported stolen in 1996; 34.4 percent of that amount was reported as recovered by police officials. Figures, tables, map, and appended tables
