This is an Appendix to the proceedings of the 9th Annual International Problem-Oriented Policing Conference, October 31 - November 3, 1998.
Abstract
This document describes the winner of the Herman Goldstein Award and six Honorable Mentions. The 1998 winner of the Herman Goldstein Award was the Boston Police Department for its Operation Cease Fire, which targeted illicit gun trafficking and violent offending by gangs and gang members. The six Honorable Mentions and their activity focus included police departments in: (1) Nassau County, New York (Fraud Schemes Targeted at Senior Citizens); (2) San Diego, California (Restoration of a Region of the San Diego River Bed); (3) Newport News, Virginia (Police Response to Incidents of Domestic Emergencies); (4) San Diego, California (San Ysidro International Border); (5) San Diego, California (drug-related Operation “Hot Pipe/Smoky Haze/Rehab”); and (6) Fontana, California (transient and homeless populations-related Transient Enrichment Network). Notes
