This report presents data on crime and arrests reported by 164 Nebraska police agencies through the Nebraska Uniform Crime Reporting Program during 1996.
Abstract
Of the 73,205 index offenses that were reported or known to police agencies in 1996, violent crimes accounted for 9.8 percent, and property crimes accounted for 90.2 percent. Larceny-theft accounted for 68.1 percent of the total crimes. The State experienced 44.3 crimes per 1,000 population. A total of 20,457 index offenses were reported cleared during 1996, for a clearance rate of 27.9 percent. The highest clearance rate was for manslaughter murder. The clearance rate was 71.5 percent for violent crimes and 23.2 percent for property crimes. A total of 15,109 persons were arrested for index offenses. Juvenile arrests accounted for 47 percent of the arrests for index offenses. The age group of 13-14 years accounted for the largest percentage of persons arrested for index offenses.
