The Index offenses covered in the data are murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. A statistical summary of domestic violence is included as well, along with a bias-incident summary. Following an overview of the development and operations of New Jersey's Uniform Crime Reporting System, the report profiles the demographics of New Jersey as well as its counties and municipalities. Police views of what has caused increases or decreases in various offenses are also outlined. A State summary of Index offenses for 1995 shows that there were 373,706 total offenses (a 2-percent increase over 1994), 47,577 violent crimes (a 2-percent decrease), and 326,129 nonviolent crimes (a 2- percent increase over 1994). A total of 73,059 offenses were cleared, a 2-percent increase from 1994. Data are also shown on the type and value of property stolen and recovered for 1994 and 1995.
