Abstract
The handbook is not intended to replace professional counseling. Rather, it is designed to serve as an aid to individuals, groups, and couples seeking professional help. Handbook chapters focus on learning to live without violence, the effect of violence on perpetrators and victims, counseling, the link between alcohol and other drugs and violence, listening skills, feelings and communication, ways to assert oneself without resorting to violence, stress reduction, jealousy, and changing patterns with partners. Additional information is appended on counseling, self-help programs, and national resources. 36 references
