At its seventh session, the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice recommended the adoption of three draft resolutions by the General Assembly and nine draft resolutions and two draft decisions by the Economic and Social Council; in addition, it adopted one resolution to be brought to the attention of the Council.
Abstract
Three draft resolutions are to be approved by the Economic and Social Council for adoption by the General Assembly. Under draft resolution I the General Assembly would accept the invitation of the Government of Austria to host the Tenth Congress, April 10-17, 2000. Under draft resolution II, which pertains to transnational organized crime, the General Assembly would welcome the report of the meeting of the group of experts on the elaboration of a preliminary draft of a possible comprehensive international convention against transnational organized crime, held at Warsaw from February 2 through the 6, 1998. Under draft resolution III, which relates to mutual assistance and international cooperation in criminal matters, the General Assembly would decide that the Model Treaty on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters should be complemented by the provisions presented in annex I to that draft resolution. Nine draft resolutions and draft decisions were recommended for adoption by the Economic and Social Council. They address the combating of public corruption, the regulation of explosives, the countering of illicit trafficking in firearms, illegal trafficking in migrants, international trafficking in women and children, standards for crime prevention and criminal justice, the status of foreign citizens in criminal proceedings, the reduction of prison overcrowding, and technical cooperation and advisory services in crime prevention and criminal justice. The two draft decisions and the resolution pertain to administrative matters. Appended supplementary information
