The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) Jails Division provides direct service in the form of technical assistance, training, and information to jail practitioners on issues related to jail operations, jail management, and new jail planning.
Abstract
Technical assistance is provided on a short-term basis, training is offered that targets issues of concern in specific jails, and training and informational materials are disseminated to jail administrators and staff. The NIC also provides assistance in the area of jail standards and helps jails prepare for national accreditation. In addition, the NIC offers assistance in the areas of inmate classification, facility planning and development, podular direct supervision jails, jail mental health services, and jail security. Specific assistance is also available to help small jails that often lack adequate resources. The NIC Jails Division attempts to work in partnership with local jail facilities. 1 endnote
