This report examines public opinion on measures dealing with gun violence.
Abstract
The report examines: (1) the public’s views on the regulation of firearms and how attitudes have changed over time; (2) gun ownership and use, including the prevalence and distribution of firearms, where guns were obtained, carrying weapons away from home and trends in gun ownership; (3) connection between gun ownership and attitudes toward firearms; (4) sociodemographic differences in attitudes toward firearms; (5) knowledge about guns and gun control laws; (6) crime concerns and experiences and guns; (7) attitudes toward government and guns; (8) use of firearms for protection against crime; (9) safety issues related to firearms, including the perceived safety that guns provide and concerns about being around guns; (10) relation between gender and firearms; (11) children and guns; and (12) gun violence and safety as a public health concern.
