This booklet presents some of the key findings from the Drugs Prevention Initiative’s (DPI) program and supplements the guidance in the DPI overview guidance booklet.
Abstract
The DPI program covers various thematic approaches to community-based drug prevention, including work with young people, parents, community involvement approaches and criminal justice interventions. These themes are identified in the booklet in connection with the aims of helping young people resist drug misuse in order to achieve their full potential in society and protecting communities from drug-related anti-social and criminal behavior. Helping Young People includes drug education in and outside school, peer education, work with vulnerable groups and parents and drug education. In addition, the booklet covers integration, training for professionals, racial and cultural diversity and information/communications, all of which are crucial to the effectiveness of any drug prevention strategy.
