This report summarizes the four phases of a project funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to determine problem areas and develop long-range research, demonstration projects, and training programs to enhance tribal court systems and to improve relationships among tribal, State, and Federal courts.
Abstract
The first phase focused on assessment and involved five tasks, starting with the development of a plan for the identification, review, and assessment of existing material and effective practices. The other four tasks were to include the University of North Dakota proposal for three training sessions, select a Project Advisory Committee, assess existing training curricula and other materials, and report the assessment results to BJA. The next three phases of the project involved developing training and technical assistance materials to improve interaction among Federal, State, and tribal courts; developing and delivering training and technical assistance projects and materials; and developing and implementing a dissemination plan, preparing this written final report, and conducting an evaluation process.
