Koo came to the United States in 1973, built a medical practice that netted $200,000 a year, drove a Mercedes, lived in a $500,000 house, and owned $2.5 million in real estate. In addition to rape charges, the investigation of Koo covered Medicaid fraud and illicit drug prescription. A key problem in Koo's trial was that victims called the police to tell their stories but were afraid to testify. Nonetheless, Koo was convicted, his conviction was later upheld in the Fifth District Court of Appeals of Indiana, and his medical license was revoked. The author presents details on the trial procedures, based on his experience as a juror and on interviews with the trial judge, the lead police detective, the prosecutor, selected jurors, and the plaintiff.
