This 1998 Annual Report of the King County Sheriff's Department (Washington State) provides data on crimes, charges, arrests, and citations, as well as data related to specific operations of the Sheriff's Department.
Abstract
There were 21,894 Part I offenses that encompass murder and non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. These offenses committed in 1998, were a 7.3-percent decline from 1997, yielding a crime rate of 40.08. The total number of cases closed in 1998 for Part I offenses was 2,113. There were 22,334 Part II offenses that encompass assaults, forgery, fraud, embezzlement, stolen property, weapons violations, etc. These were committed in 1998, a 15.6-percent increase from 1997, yielding a crime rate of 40.89 for Part II offenses. The total number of cases closed for Part II offenses was 5,778. There were 295,869 calls for service received and 135,235 calls for service dispatched. There were 7,150 adult charges/arrests and 1,603 juvenile charges/arrests. Data are also provided on traffic enforcement, officers assaulted, gang-related incidents, domestic violence incidents, and hate crimes/malicious-harassment reports. Data are presented by precincts. Statistics are also presented for contract cities; community policing storefronts; special operations activity (e.g., marine unit, bomb disposal unit, and search and rescue unit); the Criminal Investigation Division; the Domestic Violence Intervention Unit; traffic accident investigation; and the Communications Section.
