Abstract
The volume provides information supplied by justice professionals, agencies, and communities that have successfully advocated for community partnerships, formed them, or both. The volume provides examples of programs to illustrate initiatives that aim to create safe and vital communities by assessing community needs, listening to victims, engaging community members, and focusing on community safety through offender competency development and accountability. The first section describes the theoretical concepts and guiding principles of community partnerships and crime prevention, which are two central components of community justice. The second section presents examples of community partnerships in community policing, community courts, and community prosecution. The third section presents the personal perspectives of adult and juvenile justice practitioners who have experienced or are experiencing the transition to community justice in their jurisdictions through juvenile justice reform, reparative probation, new approaches to probation and parole, and community-based corrections. Each chapter discusses the problems experienced, changes required, and advancements made in the transition. Figures, tables, appended sample program materials and resource lists, and chapter reference lists
