The training scenarios are realistic, and the simulator developed for the SSP features firearms that have a light recoil spring and sub-caliber barrel and use a training round that is essentially a refillable plastic capsule of compressed air. The gun allows trainees to perform magazine changes and tactical reloads and experience malfunctions under stressful conditions. One or several officers can train on the simulator at the same time to gauge each other's judgment, reasoning, and cooperative skills. Trainees must react to each scenario on the screen in compliance with police department rules and State and Federal laws. The scenarios can be varied according to the abilities of the training officer. If a police officer neglects to do something, such as have his or her weapon displayed at the appropriate time, the scenario escalates to the next level automatically.
