Oregon's 1998 Uniform Crime Reporting presents statistics on offense and arrest groupings of crimes against persons, crimes against property, and behavioral crimes, as well as law enforcement personnel and police officers assaulted.
Abstract
Crimes known to the police in Oregon decreased 5.8 percent in 1998 compared to 1997. Crimes against persons (willful murder, negligent homicide, rape, other sex crimes, kidnapping, robbery aggravated assault, and simple assault) decreased 2.7 percent; negligent homicide, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault decreased, while willful homicide, rape, and other sex crimes increased. Crimes against property (burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, forgery/counterfeit, fraud, embezzlement, stolen property, and vandalism) decreased 8.5 percent. Behavioral crimes (weapons regulation laws, prostitution, drug laws, gambling, offenses against family, DUI, liquor law offenses, disorderly conduct, curfew, runaway juveniles, and all other offenses except traffic) decreased 2.4 percent. The Index Crime Rate for 1998 was 575.3 crimes per 10,000 population, a 10.2-percent decrease from 1997. The total number of arrests decreased 4.2 percent.
