Under current law, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections is required to maintain a sex offender registry that contains information on persons who have committed a sex offense and on persons who have committed another offense with a sexual motivation.
Abstract
The law identifies who must register as a sex offender and defines a sex offense in terms of sexual contact with a patient or client, incest, sexual assault of a child, sexual exploitation of a child, child enticement, soliciting a child for prostitution, sexual assault of a student, possession of child pornography, working or volunteering with children as a child sex offender, abduction of another's child, and false imprisonment or kidnapping. The law stipulates that a court may also order persons who are convicted of certain offenses other than sex offenses to register as sex offenders if the court determines that the underlying conduct was sexually motivated. Information to be included in Wisconsin's sex offender registry is listed, procedures for updating information are outlined, and disclosure of and access to registry information are described. 10 notes
