Several effective treatments have been identified for children and adolescents with conduct disorders, such as videotaped modeling, rehearsal of social and parenting skills, parent interaction therapy, cognitive treatments, functional family therapy, and anger management.
Abstract
In addition, school-based interventions that show promise include in-school therapy, behavioral consultation to the teacher, a positive instructional style, and more structured school routine behavior. Peer interventions encompass recreational activity programs with non-deviant peers and parental monitoring of peer affiliations. There is some evidence that multicomponent programs are superior to single-focus interventions. Diagnostic issues in the treatment of violent juvenile offenders with conduct disorders are discussed, with emphasis on DSM-IV symptoms of conduct disorders, conduct disorder types, common comorbid disorders, and assessment issues. Treatments for conduct disorders are described that target child and environmental factors and that are based on multicomponent interventions. 44 references
