Much of the material in this report is based on Uniform Crime Reports submitted monthly by all police agencies in the State to the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). The report is divided into seven sections: (1) Crimes Reported, including Index Offenses, Violent Crimes, Property Crimes, and Selected Offense Summaries; (2) Arrests; (3) Arrest Processing; (4) Felony Indictment Processing; (5) Law Enforcement Personnel; (6) Legislative Reporting Mandates; and (7) Contributing Agency Reports. In addition to monthly summaries of crimes reported, each police agency also reports to DCJS the number of adult (16 years and over) and juvenile (under 16 years) arrests. Arrest offenses are tabulated according to universal definitions of offenses provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation instead of New York State statutory classifications. Offenses are usually considered "cleared" when one or more arrests are made. However, there are exceptional circumstances when an offense may be cleared without an arrest. Notes, tables, figures
