This report provides police statistics on known and reported crimes processed by the King County Sheriff's Office (Washington State) for the year 2000.
Abstract
A total of 19,842 Part I offenses were known to the Sheriff's Office for the year 2000, a 2.5-percent decrease from the 20,344 reported in 1999. Part I offenses include criminal homicide, forcible rape (including attempts), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary (commercial and residential), larceny, vehicle theft, and arson. Homicide decreased 47.4 percent, but forcible rape increased 8.2 percent; robbery decreased 10.7 percent. There were 20,185 Part II offenses, a 2.1-percent decrease from the 20,615 in 1999. Based on number of crimes per 1,000 people, the crime rate for the year 2000 was 35.20 for Part I offenses. Of the 20,344 Part I offenses known to police, 1,835 of the cases were closed. An "Activity Summary" shows the numbers of dispatched calls for service, adult charges/arrests, juvenile charges/arrests, traffic enforcement, officers assaulted, gang-related incidents, domestic-violence incidents, and hate crimes/malicious harassment reports. Domestic-violence incidents increased 3.1 percent from 1999, from 4,848 to 4,999. Hate crimes increased 40.5 percent, from 37 in 1999 to 52 in 2000. Data are presented by precinct. Extensive tables
