PNN was established in 1991 and produced its first video show, "Communicable Diseases in Prisons," in 1993. From 1993 to 1997, PNN operated approximately 16 hours per week. Since 1998, PNN has expanded to 16 hours of viewing per day, 7 days a week. PNN circulates information to MCI's inmates and, with distribution of PNN tapes, has the potential of reaching Ohio's 45,000 offenders in 34 institutions. Also, PNN can provide services to ODRC's 16,000 staff members statewide by producing training and programming videos. In addition, PNN is an active contributor to community service, as it produces special video projects for partners throughout the community. PNN's mission is to provide high-quality video productions that are responsive to viewers' needs, which may include developing skills in speaking and writing, along with education, information, entertainment, and showcasing inside talent and using creative resources. PNN is operated primarily by inmates. Eight inmate apprentices operate the video production system under staff supervision. This year, PNN has added a design studio and post-production as well as control and graphics rooms.
