This report presents statistics on crime in Nebraska during the year 1999.
Abstract
This annual report presented data on crime and arrests reported by law enforcement agencies through the Nebraska Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program. The report described the UCR Program, presented data on Crime Index Offenses, Nebraska Arrest Data, Officers Assaulted, Offense Data by County, and Arrest Data by County. A total of 68,885 index offenses (murder/manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, simple assault, domestic assault, and hate crimes) were reported or known to law enforcement in 1999. A total of 7,172 violent crimes, 61,713 property crimes, and 3,807 domestic assaults were reported in 1999. Larceny-theft accounted for 66 percent of the total index offenses. During 1999, 17,366 index offenses were reported cleared, a clearance rate of 25.2 percent, compared to a national clearance rate of 21 percent. A total of 101,261 arrests were reported, a 2 percent decrease from 1998. Persons under the age of 18 accounted for 20.7 percent of the total arrests. Individuals age 12 through 17 represented 10 percent of the State's population. Thirty-five hate crimes were reported in 1999. Tables, figures
