This is a training package on missing and abducted child case investigations (videotape and Facilitator's Guide).
Abstract
The instructional program is designed for law enforcement, child protective service workers, emergency medical staff, and other human service personnel. The videotape explores the major types of missing child cases (runaways, family abductions, non-family abductions, thrownaways) along with the role each agency plays in recovering these children. It also discusses signs and symptoms of child abuse. It highlights investigative techniques and considerations for law enforcement personnel. The facilitator's manual reviews the material covered in the video, allowing for an organized, coherent presentation to a class or workshop. The training package can be used with new employees and cadets or at in-service training for veteran personnel. The program is also intended for use by Department of Human Resources/Child Protective Services/Department of Social Services staff, who, the manual observes, can sometimes be at odds with law enforcement in determining who has jurisdiction for a specific case. The program can also be useful to hospital emergency workers, as their jobs frequently overlap with child protective service workers and law enforcement on child safety issues.
