Abstract
The primary concern for anyone associated with law enforcement is safety. The National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) in Doylestown, PA, is one of the leading information and training resources for law enforcement. They offer more than 100 training courses a year, including some on safety. Spectra Technologies, Morristown, NJ, produces ultra-high-strength fiber and other materials used for ballistic protection in soft body armor, vehicle armor, helmets, handheld riot shields, and breastplates. Spectra and NTOA joined to form a Police Officer Safety Program designed to bring police officers a heightened level of safety awareness. The program will distribute to the law enforcement community a safety awareness package including posters, a comprehensive safety policy and procedure manual, and a series of videos. The Spectra-NTOA alliance also formed a Critical Incident Response Team to deploy support personnel to assist individuals trying to deal with the post-traumatic stress after an officer's death or other tragic event.
