This report focuses on three main topic areas of violence experienced by children that were addressed at this workshop: domestic violence; community violence, including school violence; and war and terrorism. Additionally, the topic of services and interventions/policy issues was addressed. Eleven Federal agencies sponsored the workshop, reflecting an increasing public interest in children exposed to violence. Formal sessions documented what was currently known for each of the three main topic areas in terms of prevalence, consequences, protective factors, mediator/moderators, and social and cultural factors, and the current state of definitions and measurement, services, and interventions. Each session was followed by a discussion period. The second part of the workshop was composed of four breakout groups seeking to identify critical research gaps and proposed future research directions for the three topic areas. The closing session was focused on important research needs and planning the needed steps to build a research agenda. A copy of the workshop agenda, summaries and recommendations of the breakout groups, biographical sketches of the presenters, and list of participants are contained in the appendices.
