The authors note that school bullying has received a lot of attention in the past few years due to the rising rate of violence in schools. As a result of this focus, many governments and educational authorities across the world have produced initiatives and legal guidelines designed to curb the problem of school bullying. In this article, the authors present the findings of resent research in this area, as well as the legal guidelines concerning school bullying produced in European countries by the Ministries of Education. The authors also review anti-bullying materials that are widely distributed at schools. The findings of their research reveal that many European countries do not have specific legal requirements against bullying. Furthermore, while many countries produce and distribute anti-bullying literature, the content and format of this literature varies greatly. In conclusion, the authors urge educators and legislators to continue to improve their efforts to curb school bullying because research suggests that this form of school violence can be substantially reduced.
