Data and information on incarceration in Delaware include trends for 1997-2000 as well as for the year 2000, focusing on admission counts, release counts, and "snapshot" populations for specified Department of Corrections institution or location categories.
Abstract
Data on the inmate population are distinguished by incarceration status and level of incarceration. Incarceration statuses include detained, indefinite sentences, jail (sentences of less than or equal to 1 year), prison (sentences greater than 1 year), life, and death. A sentenced offender can be incarcerated at either Level IV (quasi-incarceration associated with work release, halfway houses, supervised custody, and home confinement) or Level V (incarceration). Data are presented by quarters. Admissions and releases are presented by crime category. For the first time, this issue of the Fact Book provides inmate demographic data for each quarterly "snapshot" date by race, gender, age group, incarceration term, and levels. For the four quarters of 2000, the "snapshot" inmate population is presented by offense for each of the correctional institutions. For the major institutions, the "snapshot" inmate population for the quarters of 2000 was 5,296; 5,270; 5,388; and 5,125. Extensive tables and figures
